Description:
This course focuses on the challenges involved in the installation, display, and handling of large format colour photography. The sessions will explore the material characteristics of these works, examining their complex structures and the materials that underlie contemporary photographic prints.
Particular attention will be given to the intrinsic vulnerabilities of colour photographs and to the conservation issues related to their ageing and deterioration. The workshop will also address the practical difficulties encountered during installation and movement, highlighting the crucial role of art handlers in managing fragile, large-scale works.
Through the discussion of selected case studies, and demonstrations, participants will examine real situations encountered in museums and exhibitions, sharing practical solutions, strategies, and professional insights that help illuminate the often invisible “behind the scenes” of complex photographic installations.
