Born on 10 September 1957, he has worked at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure (OPD) since 1984 in the Movable Paintings on Canvas and Wood Panel department. Although retired in 2022, he continues to collaborate with the Institute on the restoration of painted wooden supports.
Lecturer at the OPD’s School of Fine Arts (SAF) since 1987, teaching Workshop courses on Wooden Supports.
Member of the Getty Conservation Institute’s Panel Paintings Initiative.
Coordinator for the emergency recovery and securing of artworks following the 2012 Emilia earthquake at the Ducal Palace of Sassuolo.
Co-manager of the decommissioning and reassembly of the Auschwitz Memorial, transported from the concentration camp to Florence (EX3 site, Dec 2015 – Jan 2016).
Member of the mission to Nepal (July 2015), commissioned by Minister Franceschini to assess potential interventions for cultural heritage damaged by the earthquake.
In 2016, he joined the “Blue Helmets for Culture” initiative; he underwent specific training and testing to operate in critical situations to safeguard art threatened by natural disasters or terrorism.
Coordinator for the emergency recovery of artworks following the 2016 Central Italy earthquake at the Santo Chiodo storage facility in Spoleto.
Major restored panel paintings include: The Sarzana Cross by Master Guglielmo; the Santa Maria Novella and Ognissanti crosses by Giotto; the Rosano Cross; Mantegna’s San Zeno Altarpiece; works by Fra Angelico (Linaioli Tabernacle, San Marco Altarpiece, Franciscan Triptych); Niccolò di Piero Gerini’s Deposition and Resurrection; Beccafumi’s Coronation of the Virgin; Rosso Fiorentino’s Dei Altarpiece; Leonardo da Vinci’s Adoration of the Magi, and numerous other masterpieces.
