
Andrea Del Bianco is a senior conservator and professor with over twenty years of experience in the conservation of paper materials, contemporary art, and synthetic supports. He graduated in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Bologna and specialized in Paper Conservation at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, later earning a master’s degree from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Conservation and Restoration of Contemporary Art.
A partner in the Laboratorio degli Angeli in Bologna, he has contributed to complex projects such as the treatment of Raphael’s Cartoon School of Athens at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, where he developed an innovative solvent-based lining system using acrylic resins.
Renowned for adapting and reformulating PVA-borax-based gels for cleaning delicate surfaces, he has led workshops on this subject at institutions such as SRAL (Maastricht), the Opificio delle Pietre Dure (Florence) and the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain).
He serves as an associate professor and coordinator of the PFP2 course at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna. He is also vice-coordinator of the PhD program Safeguarding Cultural Heritage in the Era of Ecological Transition: Innovative Materials and Methodologies for Sustainable Restoration at the same Academy. He is active in workshops, publications and conferences; he is a member of the scientific committees of CESMAR7, the journal CORES – Conservation and Restoration, and the IGIIC study days on the conservation of contemporary art (for the latter, he edits the proceedings for the journal Restauro in Accademia).
