A restorer with the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale in Florence since 1999, Alessandro has been in charge of the restoration laboratory since 2023. A resident restorer with the Opificio delle Pietre Dure since 2018, he continues to work with the institute. With a diploma from the Scuola di Conservazione del Libro in Spoleto (1996), he studied at West Dean College under the guiding hand of Chris Clarkson (1996-1998).
A lecturer in restoration schools and courses on emergency management for books at the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in Rome, he has contributed to the training of librarians and restorers from Malaysia, Iraq, Lebanon and Egypt. He prepared the emergency plan for the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale in Florence and on-line training for the Regione Toscana (Progetto Trio). He is a member of the MiC Toscana Crisis Unit, and he has contributed to the drafting of national guidelines for emergencies and temporary storage facilities.
He has managed drying operations for flooded collections in Genoa, Aulla, Venice, Forlì and in Tuscany (2023). A member of the Cultural Blue Helmets and of the Blue Shields Italia Technical and Scientific Committee, he has been selected as a cultural heritage expert for the European civil protection force. He has produced publications on the management of floods and on emergencies for book heritage.
