Claudia has been a resident restorer with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs since 2018 working at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure’s Tapestry and Carpet Workshop, where she is involved in restoration, research and lecturing at the Institute’s Higher Education School (SAFS). On graduating in 2014 in Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration (LMR/02) at the Università degli Studi di Palermo and gaining her professional qualification, she specialised in the restoration of predominantly textile and leather artefacts, with a thesis on the restoration of the theatrical costumes of the leading players in “I Puritani” at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.
She pursued her professional training with a Master’s course, 2nd level, in “scientific instruments in support of the exploration and protection of cultural heritage” at UNIROMA3, producing her final paper on the scientific study of a tapestry picture. She has performed conservation and restoration work on textile artefacts belonging to private and public bodies at the regional and national level.
She has performed inventory, cataloguing and conservation tasks with the Archivio di Stato in Palermo and research activity on nanostructured materials and nanotechnologies with the ISMN-CNR. She has lectured at professional training institutes, in the Master’s course in the Conservation and Management of Contemporary Artworks at the Opificio, and at the qualifying course in restoration at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo. At the SAFS she teaches the History of Artistic Techniques and Conservation of Tapestries and Carpets.
